Insight into my abstract paintings
All of my abstract art pieces start with a vague idea or concept. I try to imagine an emotion, a feeling, or an experience.
I then choose colours that I feel fit in with that idea.
My first step in the painting is to make a few bold marks on the canvas.
I don't use pencil to draw out my design, as I don't want to be able to erase those initial marks.
I then start blending, refining details, and adding more colour as I go along.
I let the painting evolve organically, whilst still remaining true to the initial idea.
I enjoy my abstract paintings probably more than any of the other styles of painting I do. I think this is because, although I try to maintain a structure to them, there is no pressure to get a 'likeness' to an actual real life object.
This means they can flow and develop much more naturally.
Some of these pieces are featured in my book: Connecting to My Spirit: A Journey in Art and Poetry, with more insight into how and why each one was created, and what they represent. Please check out my Homepage for a link to this book on Amazon.
